collage - appropriated image stock pages on watercolor paper
Late at night I am up preparing for the following days’ class or project and in those late hours I'm only left with the music, my thoughts and what ever research I have sitting in front of me within my makeshift studio space. One particular night I was flipping through magazines that I had previously cut out of and was inspired by my find.
Collage isn’t new for me but this find furthered my interested in the appropriated image as well as my interest in the "value" we place on imagery. The images found in this body of work have been torn from photography magazines and stock photography books that I've carried subscriptions to in the past. I have arranged and layered the pages; cutting into the page or removing pages in order to reveal what sits beneath the surface. Collage and the assemblage of appropriated pages of magazines are another extension of my interest in the layers of information found within surfaces. Whether photographs, drawings or appropriated images, my work relates to an understanding of what was and what can be in the construction of identity and surfaces.
